For youth ages 5-18 (grouped by age)
Wednesday afternoons, January-March 2021
LexPride is initiating a new program—Rainbow Artists—to offer LGBTQ+ youth and allies opportunities to explore and express their identities and values in a safe, supportive setting. Our pilot session will consist of two groups (by age), each meeting twice monthly for two months. Two instructors will facilitate the meetings with multidisciplinary expressive arts activities and conversation. These will not be therapy groups, but rather opportunities to explore, learn, and gain insight through creative expression with a community of peers. Research shows that this can generate measurable improvements in mental and physical health. Our two facilitators are:
- Marina Strauss (she/her): artist, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and Expressive Arts Therapist with 20+ years of experience. Marina also brings the perspective of a multilingual Latinx immigrant.
- Noah Stang-Osborne (they/them): LexPride Board member, social justice speaker and activist, and third-year art therapy student. Noah is interning at the Perkins School for the Blind and Harvard University. Noah also brings the perspective of a transgender, queer Black person with multiple disabilities.
To express interest in the program, please complete this form: https://forms.gle/deQUWC8CuptNcey9A. We will then create the groups and a schedule. We expect that Rainbow Artists will begin meeting in mid-late January. We thank Munroe Center for the Arts for cosponsoring this program.
